Copenhagen’s Anders Knudsen is a solo artist and guitarist with Dør Nr. 13. His sophomore album, Cloudwalker, was released earlier this year, and Dør Nr. 13 are currently making waves in their Danish tongue, having just played SZIGET Festival in Budapest and won KarriereKanonen 2016.
“This playlist has got a little bit of everything. I thought it would be nice to throw in a few Danish artists, some evergreens and, of course, a couple of obscurities.
“These ten tracks, I can listen to on repeat. Some of them date back to my youth. Others are freshly discovered. There is simply too much good music to choose from. These songs I love. Hope you’ll love them too.”
1. Kate Bush – ‘In Search Of Peter Pan’
“I always come back to Kate. There is not a single song on her first two albums that I don’t like.”
2. The Raveonettes – ‘Sisters’
“Fellow Danes. Strong, noisy and beautifully haunting. I think this song is their finest achievement to date.”
3. The Strawberry Alarm Clock – ‘The Pretty Song’
“This track from sixties movie, Psych-Out, is a lost classic. A could-have-been anthem of the Flower Power era.”
4. Francoise Hardy – ‘Brûlure’
I have recently discovered this one. I love Francoise. I can listen to her music for hours on end.
5. Franz Liszt – ‘Transcendental Etude No. 9 Ricordanza’
“This beautiful piece of classical music inspired the song, ‘A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes’, from Disney’s Cinderella.”
6. Phil Ochs – ‘City Boy’
“I just love this song. Phil Ochs was the badass of the Greenwich Village singer/songwriters.”
7. The Everly Brothers – ‘Nancy’s Minuet’
“This may have inspired ‘Never Let Me Down’ from my first album, Perils. The Everly’s are my favourite singing duo. I saw them live in 2004 when they were on tour with Simon & Garfunkel. Easily one of the most magical concert moments of my life.”
8. The Pussycats – ‘Dressed In Black’
“George ‘Shadow’ Morton’s finest piece of work. In my opinion.”
9. Double Moon Mirage – ‘Pale White Light’
“Penned by my good friend and band member Nikolaj Paakjær, this home recording (including angelic vocals from his wife and muse, Henriette) has grown to become one of my all-time favourite songs.”
10. Cliff Edwards – ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’
“…and this may very well BE my all-time favourite song. I’m a big fan of Disney music. Obviously ;-)”
