Ask the DJ: Keir – Top 10 Songs to Wake Up To

Bristol-based singer/songwriter, Keir, released his latest single just last month – ‘sadboy’ follows on from standout debut tracks, ‘Squeeze Me’ and ‘Night and Day’, and sees Keir take a poppier slant, while the chorus pounds to life with the grit and determination his earlier tracks afforded.

Having already wrapped up a headline tour in April, with further dates culminating at The Camden Assembly in May, Keir continues his festival season in Belgium with Rock Werchter, Blue Balls Festival in Switzerland, Cornwall’s Leopalooza and Above Festival, Twycross, UK.

Listen to ‘sadboy’ HERE and check out his Top 10 Songs to Wake Up To.

1. King Krule – ‘Dum Surfer’

“Makes me wanna get down and dirty, the ooz is a fantastic album. This song feels full of angst and guts.”

2. Os Mutantes – ‘A Minha Menina’

“Can’t remember where I found this but it’s so great. They are a wild band on a path all of their own. I’d love to find out what they are saying.”

3. Amy Winehouse – Cupid

“An amazing cover of a Sam Cooke song, there’s a heart-breaking lyric: “I love a man who doesn’t know I exist.” I think this was a part of a whole EP Amy did but this one is my fav.”

4. Aretha Franklin – ‘Mary, Don’t You Weep’

“This whole thing feels ad lib, something very exciting about Aretha just feeling her way, moving the song as and when she likes. I love her.”

5. David Bowie – ‘Letter To Hermione’

“This song is beautiful, heartfelt, and one of the few love songs I think Bowie ever wrote. Helps bring me out of sleep.”

6. Prince – ‘If I Was Your Girlfriend’

“I actually just found this song and had never listened before. It feels like a morning beat. Prince sensual and sexy.”

7. Grimes – ‘Kill V. Maim’

“She is just so exciting, and this is my fav off of her newest record. I don’t even know what the lyric is but it I believe her regardless.”

8. Linda Perhacs – ‘Hey, Who Really Cares?’

“Probably more likely to fall back to sleep listening to this but it’s a beauty anyway. I don’t know much about Linda Perhacs but she largely known for this record. Her voice is so soft and fragile.”

9. Frank Sinatra – ‘Moonlight In Vermont’

“A morning isn’t a morning without Frank. Makes me feel smooth, calm, like for a moment nothing can go wrong.”

10. IDLES – ‘Mother’

“My favourite band of the moment. It wakes me up, makes me feel excited.”

‘Sad Boy’ is out now.
