Soho-based electronica duo, Lisbon Kid, can currently be found residing in Ibiza for a series of Sunset Sessions, this 25-29th May.
Comprised of award-winning writers and producers Danny de Matos and Rui da Silva, the duo released their first single, ‘Sunburst’, on the Wall Of Sound label, following the success of the track on the Balearic, Golden Lounge and Cafe Del Mar compilations, “It’s obviously been well received and so we’re really chuffed to now be asked to play all these iconic Ibiza venues and parties during the opening week of the season… We don’t expect we’ll get much sleep for a while though!”
Lisbon Kid’s self-titled debut album is as diverse as it is adventurous – a beguiling mix of electronica, acoustic instruments, ambient landscaping and elements of sound design, added to a huge song-based pop sensibility and emotional lyrical content.
Check out their top 10 tracks to take you from sunset to sunrise, in Ibiza, or wherever you are in the world…
1. Mark Barrott – ‘Island Life’
“The finest purveyor of retro-leaning Balearic music around….”
2. Porter Robinson – ‘Sea Of Voices’
“Shoe gazing sunset track… blissful atmosphere… it builds and builds and builds intensively.”
3. Tusks – ‘Dreamcatcher (Bodhi Glitch Remix)’
“We don’t know much about Tusk but Bodhi Glitch remix sounds incredible, a brilliant track, perfect for those end of the day times…”
4. Spike – ‘The Golden Eye’
“Classic sounds, it feels like a track from another era… another brilliant sunset track…”
5. Silk Rhodes – ‘Pains’
“Something we discovered recently but has jumped right onto the playlists for our Sunset Sessions Ibiza tour…”
6. Ry Cooder – ‘I Think It’s Gonna Work Out Fine’
“How a slide guitar can be that emotional that it can make you cry? Like this…”
7. Bob James & Earl Klugh – ‘Angela’
“Beautiful… Great performance. The tightest ensemble. (Both the tune and the TV series, Taxi, that used ‘Angela’ as its theme.)”
8. Pink Floyd – ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part One)’
“Simply stunning at sunrise. Sublime. (From a nine part Gilmour-led homage/goodbye note to Syd Barrett.)”
9. The Innocence Mission – ‘When Mac Was Swimming’
“Sit back… Deep breath. Relax. A wonderful slow-burner form this kooky Pennsylvania husband and wife team. Lovely Amish-like accented vocals. Enjoy.”
10. Wings – ‘Cuff Link’
“A forgotten instrumental tune from the underrated London Town album. This sees McCartney and Co. on a rare outing into electronica mixed with acoustic drums. Better than The Beatles? Forgive us for our synths…”
Lisbon Kid’s self-titled debut album is out now via Wall of Sound, featuring guest appearances from Sarah Cracknell (St. Etienne), Lisa Billson (Orbital/Loose Salute), James Craise (Professor Green), electronic diva Queen of Hearts and Icelandic songstress Hafdis Huld.
