Ask the DJ: Vundabar – 10 Songs to Wistfully Dance with Yourself To

Vundabar have just announced their brand-new album out early next year, Smell Smoke. Ahead of that, the Boston duo are releasing a two-track 7″ that includes ramshackle indie pop hit ‘Acetone’, a tune that would have the even the most discerning of muso’s dancing in the aisles (listen HERE). To celebrate the launch of this dance-pop hit, the mischievous duo have put together a playlist of 10 songs to wistfully dance with yourself to.

1. Joyce – ‘Olhos Feiticeiros’

“This is the morning/making coffee tune. Soft sway while you start your day kind of deal.”

2. The Psychedelic Furs – ‘Love My Way’

“This one’s more of a slowly-raising-your-fist-in-the-air-while-making-angular-hip-movements song. It sounds uplifting but also puts a pit in my stomach. Thanks for the emotional confusion, Psychedelic Furs.”

3. Connan Mockasin – ‘I Wanna Roll With You’

“Would I be flattered if Connan Mockasin wanted to roll with me? Yes.”

4. La Femme – ‘Amour Dan Le Motu’

“Fun French dance times. I can, in a voyeuristic moment, imagine what knowing how to dance might be like. If only life were like the Sims, my avatar rump would shake all day.”

5. Alex Cameron – ‘Happy Ending’

“This song made me laugh for a little and then cry a lot. Thanks for the emotional confusion, Alex Cameron.”

6. Pearls Before Swine – ‘Playmate’

A lovely feel good tune from a lovely feel good album. A forgotten relic from 60’s psychedelia.

7. The Cramps – ‘Garbageman’

“What’s more punk than telling people they aren’t punk?”

8. The Cure – ‘Close To Me’

“Poor Robert Smith. He reminds me of a misunderstood gargoyle that lives in the rafters of a small-town church. His intentions are good, but he terrifies the locals. He just wants to love and be loved but his big ruddy gargoyle hands are too unwieldy, crushing fine origami and ice cream waffle cones alike.”

9. Klaus Nomi – ‘Simple Man’

“Trench coats, opera, and that makeup. Incredible video and an incredible mind.”

10. The Stone Roses – ‘I Wanna Be Adored’

“Don’t we all? I thoroughly enjoy Ian Brown’s taste for sweat suits during some of their performances. He’s a proud and brazen chicken of a performer.”
