Georgia Hardinge @ London Fashion Week AW16

One of the most inspired and interesting presentations that hit London Fashion Week was Georgia Hardinge’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection β€œinspired by lenticular techniques, revealing an image when seen at a certain angle.” Georgia applied the idea of the way in which we look at stars at different angles as the basis for her designs, to create her stylish asymmetric looks.

Part of the collection featured skirts; dresses and sets that featured fanned detailing with graphics of stars and geometric shapes amongst the overlapping sections. This created an almost whimsical feel making the pieces look as if they were being held up by an invisible (very fashionable) string. The colours, although muted, were offset by the holographic designs giving the looks an edgy β€˜cool-girl’ vibe. The juxtaposition of understated colours and simpler designs, with the prevalent standout detailing, allowed these looks to create beautiful silhouettes without going overboard avant-garde.

One of our favourite pieces from the collection was this monochrome set, featuring the fanned out skirt and long-sleeved Bardot top which gave a nod to the skirt through its flattering fanned ruffles.

The collection also extended into simpler looks that still featured satellite inspired detailing in the form of star elbow patches and subtle holographic designs. A standout set was the deep magenta sweater, skirt and jacket set, which nicely gave the collection a more wearable feel whilst staying uniquely on trend.

Georgia’s aesthetic is completely unlike anything that cropped up at fashion week, combining sculpture and aesthetic to create a combination of artwork and style. She created the right balance between sophistication and edge, and we highly recommend checking out the collection.
