Lightning Fashion: Thunderbolt Goes Pop!

The thunderbolt is synonymous with iconic images from the Pop art movement, when comic strips were portrayed within works of art by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein, who used vastly vivid colours to illustrate the comic strip presence in popular culture of the decade.

A certain work of art by Roy Lichenstein, aptly named Thunderbolt – the one above is The Ring – has since inspired many fashion, beauty and art trends within media and on the street.

One fashion find we’re loving right now is the Lightning Ring (Β£67), part of the Quantum Cubus collection by Tresor Paris. It showcases the Lapis Lazuli stone encased in yellow, white or rose gold, and can be purchased at tresorparis.com.

Many may also be aware of Flash Gordon by DC Comics. Flash Gordon, originally written by Alex Raymond and adapted into a soap opera action film has since become a cult sensation over time, and has had quite a few ‘fashion moments’ itself.

One brand currently sporting the ‘Flash Gordon theme’ with their Flash high heel (Β£75), is London based shoe designer, Yull. Contrasts of red and navy blue make the bright yellow thunderbolt motif on these shoes really pop!

“Colour is essential for this look, while fun prints and novelty design takes centre stage,” said Sarah Watkinson-Yull, founder of Yull.
