This week, we take a peek into the Weekend Wardrobe of wonderful knitwear designer, Mandkhai Jargalsaikhan.

Mandkhai was born and raised into a family of knitwear designers, in the world’s finest cashmere capital – Mongolia. Surrounded by yarns, patterns and expert weavers in her parent’s factory – one of the largest manufacturers of cashmere in Mongolia, working with luxury fashion brands such as Takashimaya and Gerard Darel, and dressing the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton and Julia Roberts – Mandkhai learned every process of making quality knitwear and working with fine fibre cashmere, often travelling to the countryside to watch the Mongolian mountain goats in their natural habitat.

“The shaggy and nimble creatures have incredible climbing skills and because of the harsh weather conditions in Mongolia, they grow a layer of fine hair underneath their rougher fur to help them survive the winter,” tells Mandkhai. “It is when spring arrives that this fine hair is combed out and becomes the raw material for cashmere.”

Following a course in fashion design and marketing at London’s Regent’s College, it was the buzzing creative scene of our capital that inspired Mandkhai to start her own label. She spotted a gap in the market for a new era of super superior quality cashmere. Her design code includes wholly modern silhouettes, blending contemporary feminine and sharp shapes with avant-garde detailing.
