On Repeat: Coves & ‘Stormy’

You see nothing but thunder in my stormy eyes…

London via Leamington Spa’s Coves are back with new single ‘Stormy‘, set for release via 1965 Records on December 18th.

‘Stormy’ is the first single from the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, yet to be named and due March 2016.

Debut LP, Soft Friday, was recorded in their live-in studio in Leamington Spa – built in a disused office and christened Castle Grayskull – gaining them a number of prominent DJ fans, including Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne and Nick Grimshaw, while garnering comparisons to Spiritualized, Lana Del Ray, The Shangri-Las and Brooklyn trend-setters Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls.

The band dismantled Castle Grayskull sometime after the debut and left Leamington for London, splitting their time between life in the capital and on-the-road adventures with the likes of St Vincent and The Raveonettes.

Their forthcoming album touches on themes that emerged from the transition period, β€œhow our life is now compared to then, the journey, fallouts between friends, the growth you have in life. We were on a rollercoaster of living the life of professional touring musicians and then going back to the day job,” tells the front-woman.

Coves are Rebekah Wood (songwriter/vocals) and John Ridgard (songwriter/guitarist).

‘Stormy’ is out on December 18th via 1965 Records, and second album March 2016.
