On Repeat: October Drift’s ‘Lost’

22 May 2015 by

Devon’s October Drift are fresh from selling out their debut headline tour, and following the release of their latest single – the dark and eutrophic ‘You Are, You Are’ – have just uploaded a simple yet effective video to fit the brooding gem of a B-side, ‘Lost’.

Whereas, ‘You Are, You Are’ rattles and fizzes along at a driving pace whilst mixing Joy Division, The Cure and Sonic Youth in for a good measure, ‘Lost’ drags you along in a gloomy but strangely uplifting, carefree manner; “So take what you want, I don’t need that much of anything, take what you need, if you need you can bleed my energy…” After first listen I can understand how OD sold out their first gigs by word of mouth alone.

Like Eagulls, October Drift create huge anthemic post punk tinged music that is at once bleak but beautiful. Lyrics like “We don’t need the world anymore” are sung with a passionate fragility and are complimented by musicians that convey two fold what is being sung.

October Drift are doing their best to avoid social media to promote their music and have been contacting their fans by email statements to keep things on a more personal level. In all honesty October Drift’s music speaks volumes in its approach and delivery alone. So, what are you waiting for?

‘You Are, You Are’ / ‘Lost’ was mixed by Dan Cox (Thurston Moore, Three Trapped Tigers, Theme Park) and is available on limited edition, handmade CD packs for pre-order here.
