On Trend: Bucket Hats & Bumbags

Some of those 90s trends can stay in the 90s as far as we’re concerned. Flicking through those old family albums and discovering some of the outfit choices you or your mum made for you can be quite frightening. However we’re happy to welcome back and embrace the return of the bucket hat and bumbag! We’ve got that 90’s nostalgia and it’s all thanks to the influential music and popular culture that impelled us as much back then as it still does today.

Stone Roses drummer Reni was rarely seen without a bucket on his bonce and it wasn’t long before another one of our favourite Mancunians Liam Gallagher followed suit! You can even grab one of these hats from Oasis frontman’s Pretty Green stores today, in a paisley or union jack print… so 90s! This look was also made iconic by Mr LL Cool J himself in his infamous Kangol headpiece. Now ask yourself a question, who doesn’t want to be as cool as the king of hip hop?

A lot of the SS16 runways witnessed bucket hats and bumbags being at the forefront of collections, including Gypsy Sport, Tommy Hilfiger, Christopher Raeburn and Henry Holland. These cult pieces are essential items this season to give your wardrobe that casual-cool and ‘throwback’ look. If the bumbag around the waist is too much of a fashion faux pas for you, even with the likes of Rihanna regularly spotted in hers, slip it over your shoulder instead or fasten it across your body for a modern take on this accessory. From animal and tribal prints to embellishments and quilted leather, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the variety of styles on offer!

Check out our favourite pieces, we’ll definitely be grabbing some of these ready for festival season.
