Random Obscurities: Honey, I Shrunk The Hits

There’s probably not many children of the eighties who don’t remember the comedy movie Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, just as there’s probably not many kids of the eighties who remember the wife of Rick Moranis‘ scientist character.

Oh, but Marcia, I remembered you!

Although never a commercial success, the singles that Marcia Strassman recorded in the sixties are little gems up there with the best of the forgotten nuggets.

Released as the B-side of failed chart-topper 1967 single ‘The Flower Children’, ‘Out Of The Picture’ did little to boast any given career in pop music.

Instead a career in acting followed and Marcia landed her best-known role as Julie Kotter, the wife of title character high school teacher Gabe in the ABC comedy series Welcome Back, Kotter, 1975.

More work in the line of acting followed trop, but in March 2007, she was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer that had spread to her bones. She died this week, a year ago, at her home in Sherman Oaks, California, on October 24, 2014. She was 66 years old.
