Random Obscurities: ‘Skiing In The Snow’ w/ Wigan’s Ovation and The Beach Girls

Little was written about Wigan’s Ovation during their short lived career, and little has been written about them ever since. The band split up in 1976, but did, however, appear on TOTP a total number of 13 times.

Although the group has often been criticised, and being the victims of very mixed opinions, ‘Skiing In The Snow‘ is a great little song, perfectly suited to warm our hearts in December.

Another version of the song – pre-dating the one by Wigan’s Ovation by ten years – was recorded by The Beach Girls, also known as The Rag Dolls. The group consisted of lead singer Jean Thomas, and two other vocal talents, Mickie Harris and Susan Lewis.

The song was released as a single in February 1965, but did not chart nationally in Billboard.

‘Skiing In The Snow’ was written by Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell.
