Streetstyle @ Vancouver Fashion Week SS17

The ‘Banana Couple’ were probably the most standout fashionistas on the streets for the 28th edition of Vancouver Fashion Week, this September. We checked out the style of those heading to Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver for VFW spring/summer 2017.

Head to toe black was just as prevalent in Vancouver as it is the more established Fashion Weeks’ around the globe, but minimalism by no way means lack of style. Cropped trousers, rolled up jeans and layering were just as popular among the guys (and girls), along with single-breasted suits and blazers.

Nevertheless, Vancouver streetstyle is not just about minimalism. Although the more unique outfits were more wacky than fashion forward, at least they beat the catalogue chic among the crowd, who could have just as easily been off to their local Slug & Lettuce for a bottle of vino (do Vancouver even have Slug & Lettuce?). Speaking of food, wacky is fine as long as it’s absolute bananas, as one couple demonstrated – also proving that you don’t have to be a copycat to pull off a twinsy.

Vancouver Fashion Week is still one to watch as it carves out its own niche on the world stage, but we’re keeping our eyes peeled.
