The Barge House Launches Perfect Pairing Evening w/ East London Liquor Company

This summer, The Barge House has joined culinary forces with East London Liquor Company to create the Perfect Pairing Evening.

Following on from the success of their Breakfast in Bread brunch (available on weekends), Luke Dunwoodie, Head Chef at the canalside venue, has been working with Mikey Pendergast, one of the founding members of East London Liquor, to create an incredible three course dinner with perfectly paired cocktails.

“It’s becoming increasingly important how restaurants consider their food and drink pairings,” explains Dunwoodie. “It is no longer a world reserved for high end restaurants and wine. Now every day food has its place too. Here we have created a dining experience where food and drink were on a level playing field, each working with the other to create the overall flavour and palette of the meal.

“Working with Mikey we created a menu where its base flavours were directly linked, tying together and elevating the flavours present in both the food and the liquors to create a complete experience. Considering the fresh flavours of gin and the warmer smoky flavours of whisky makes you consider the plates you are creating. It’s a real privilege to work with someone like Mikey who has an in-depth appreciation & understanding of alchemy between the food and drink beyond the tradition of wines”

Raw Sea Trout with Cucumber, Liquorice & Borage @ The Barge House

The Perfect Pairing Evening launched in April and also takes place the first Thursday of the month this May and June. Delicious combinations included Raw Sea Trout with Cucumber, Liquorice & Borage paired with a Bergamot Bijou (ELL Co. Batch 2 Gin, Chartreuse, Bergamot Bitters, Pink Pepper Cucumber Slices), and Pistachio Mousse with Milk Crumb and Dark Chocolate Glass served with a Cherry Wood Toronto (Sonoma Cherry Wood Rye, Fernet Branca, Maple Syrup).

The Barge House is now taking bookings for their Perfect Pairing Evening on May 4th, an evening that kicks off with Asparagus, Wild Garlic, Egg Cream Mustard, with a finale of French Cherries, Frozen Curd, Champagne Jelly & Toasted Milk.

Tickets include a 3 course dinner, arrival aperitif and a glass to complement each course, £55 per head.
