Born Stranger Release Single No. 3, ‘Cheating Love (Feat Caitlyn Scarlett)’

Three things we can be certain of/That’s death and taxes and love/One thing I can be certain of/You’re cheating all of the above…

Electro-pop duo, Born Stranger, have just released their third single – ‘Cheating Love (Feat Caitlyn Scarlett)’.

The infectious duet sees Maddox-Jones and alt-pop emergent, Caitlyn Scarlett, play out a relationship, where they pick their brains on their commitment to each other. Scarlett penned the lyrics to the song within 15 minutes of being given the title, “We invited her to a studio session thinking we could get her to sing on one of our album tracks but when we got to the studio we had this instrumental and the title ‘Cheating Love’. Caitlyn was like ‘give me a few minutes’, and 15 minutes later she had this great verse and lyrics and the song just came to life. … so we went with it and demo’d the track on the same day. A few tweaks later and here we are…”

“The idea came about to write about a situation from two people’s point of view,” adds Scarlett. “The phrase β€˜cheating love’ can be perceived as infidelity, but the undertone I wanted to convey was that of cheating love the same way someone might cheat death, a close shave but ultimately avoided.”

Born Stranger – completed by Maddox-Jones and Raife Hacking – craft motivating synth-pop inspired by millennial titans, Coldplay and The Weeknd. Last autumn’s debut single, ‘Fire & The Flame’, made it through the airwaves via Radio X and BBC Introducing, and was swiftly followed by ‘Be Someone’, which earned them a space on many a Ones To Watch list for 2017.

This latest single, co-produced by Yoad Nevo (Sia, Pet Shop Boys, Goldfrapp), has also been championed by BBC Introducing, and placed on Deezer’s Brand New UK.

‘Cheating Love (Feat Caitlyn Scarlett)’ is out now.
