Daughter @ 02 Forum, Kentish Town

Last Thursday saw Daughter play a sold out show at the 02 Forum in Kentish Town, London.

The local indie-folk trio – Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella – played brilliantly, and didn’t disappoint.

Latest single, ‘Doing The Right Thing’, taken from brand new album Not To Disappear, captivated the audience with its delicately haunting lyrics, telling of the deterioration of a person’s mind due to dementia and the debilitation it causes loved ones. Musically reminiscent of the poetic sounds of P.J Harvey, it’s the brutal honesty of Not To Disappear that makes it such a compelling listen.

There is no recurring theme during their live set, and their songs connect with what’s happening around them, transmitting feelings and emotions to the audience, while they remain cool and collected in their beautiful unveiling.

The band combine an eclectic range of styles, from dramatic trip hop sounds to ambient indie rock, setting the perfect backdrop for Elena’s delicate pixie voice. And there’s a solid depth to their songs – they feel very real, deep and emotional.

Daughter broke onto the music scene in 2010, and it was second single, ‘Youth’ – taken from the band’s debut album, If You Leavethat gained the band a loyal following. They’ve since gained worldwide recognition and dedicated fan base.

Quietly brilliant, this band are going to be around for a while.
