On Repeat: The Dunwells’ ‘Hey Now’

The Dunwells hail from Leeds, but it’s their musical ability that leads them.

From Yorkshire to Jay Leno – a million plus streams on Spotify and how does that happen? Once you listen to their latest single ‘Hey Now‘ – that question becomes redundant.

Simply put, this track is utterly beautiful from start to finish.

Instantly identifiable… this tune beckons and coerces you into singing along with it before you’ve even finished listening to it for the first time. How can you feel like you already know a song before you’ve finished listening to it? Because each part lends itself seamlessly and poetically to the next.

I hear a helluva lot of music, but this offering is far and away my favourite for a long, long time.

Wonderfully produced, from the hand clap intro – the track softly pulls you in by the ears, lead vocals treat you with notes so sumptuous that they sound like honey, chord changes work majestically, before the song really opens up and caresses your sound holes with layered harmonies that are magical, uplifting, spiritual and gloriously gospel.

The vocal works on this track cannot be over-stated. It is ridiculously good. Make no bones about it, this really is a songwriting masterclass.

The clue is in the name – The boys have ‘Dunwell’.

Find out for yourself by catching them live on tour this November.

The Dunwells are Joe Dunwell (Vocal, Guitar), Dave Dunwell (Vocal, Guitar), Rob Clayton (Bass) and Adam Taylor (Drums).
