This Weekend: Rock & Indie Bands Kicking It At SoccerSixFest

The annual celebrity Soccer Six Fest, which famously saw Oasis pitched against Blur (back in the day), takes place at Mile End Stadium in East London this Sunday.

Soccer Six first kicked off in 1996, when the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Shed Seven, Apollo 440, Gene, Jamiroquai, Nick Moran and Jude Law laced up to battle it out on the pitch. Apollo 440 won the trophy that year, beating the Shed Seven team 5-1 in the final.

Since then, players have included Robbie Williams (who was guest player on both the Pulp and Oasis team in 1997, when the latter played against Blur), Reef, who took the title that year, Iron Maiden, Mark Owen, Stereophonics, The Lightning Seeds, The Levellers, James, Ocean Colour Scene, Supergrass, The Prodigy, Finley Quaye, Goldie, Babyshambles (pictured below as winners of the 2007 trophy) Ant & Dec, Lennox Lewis, Chris Eubank, and the cast of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. There have been ladies too – Gail Porter, Cat Deeley, Sara Cox… we could go on!

Guests can watch their favourite stars play football, enjoy live music performances and witness the Soccer Six Fest champions take home the trophy. Soccer Six events always give fans the chance to meet their idols, and this year’s celebrities include the likes of Dappy, Jake Quickenden, EastEnders/Strictly’s Jake Wood, DJ Brandon Block, stars from The Krays movie, Game of Thrones, Britain’s Got Talent, Waterloo Road, X Factor, TOWIE and many more.

Also this year, courtesy of all the talent who have come on board to make it a brilliant day, Soccer Six Fest aims to create awareness and raise funds for the charity Giving Kids A Break, and a number of established and breakthrough music acts will perform on the Soccer Six Live Stage as the event concludes.

Live music in the VIP bar will come from Lois & The Love, Mourning Birds and Laburnum – aptly declared ‘Band Of The Year’ by Sky Sports producers.

On the pitch this year will be…

The Darkness, Space, Xfm Radio, Rolo Tomassi, Hadouken, Metal Hammer, The Enemy, Reverend and the Makers, Hill Valley High, This Feeling, Someday I, Trampolene, Eliza And The Bear, The Jackobins, Diamond Days, Savage Nomads, End Of The Trail Records, Leopards, IC1s, Dexters, Mourning Birds, Passport To Stockholm, Natalie Indya West, Morrissey & Marshall, Fort Hope, House Of Thieves, Storms, ROAM, The Bulletproof Bomb, Hidden Charms, Joyzine, Bang Bang Romeo, Laburnum, My Little Empire, Raw Power, Chuggaboom, elephants and castles, Glass Caves, Lost Film Foundation, Alias Kid, Sweetheart Contract, The Holloways, Flash Bang Band, The Paddingtons and more!
