Ask the DJ: Big & The Fat – Top 10 Tracks To Whip Out Before Giving In & Going To Bed

East-London quartet, Big & The Fat, are renowned for delivering bass-driven, pulsating electro-rock and have just released their new single ‘My Thang’ via We Can Do It Records.

The single is accompanied by a compelling DIY single-shot video which sees them using a deserted high-rise in the most imaginative way possible. “We wanted a video that had the same grit and movement as the track,” say the band, “so we made something simple on iPhone with one long tracking shot around a brutalist warehouse in Silvertown. Some of the building is temporarily being used as an artists’ hub (before it gets torn down and turned into flats), but a lot of it is still disused and holds some original industrial charm.”

As for their playlist: “You know at the butt end of a party when you’re one of the stragglers pointlessly still up sitting in silence around a kitchen table ignoring the sunrise clinging on to an aux cable? These are exactly the tracks to whip out before giving in and going to bed.”

1. Madison Avenue – ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’

“The ultimate school bus banger… and ultimate pop bass line.”

2. Jamiroquai – ‘Deeper Underground’

“Because Jamiroquai… doesn’t his voice still make your spine tingle??”

3. Five – ‘Keep On Movin’’

“We’ve been movin’ ever since our ears became victims of this track.”

4. Edwyn Collins – ‘A Girl Like You’

“We all loved and rinsed this… and still do.”

5. Britney Spears – ‘Toxic’

“This was the first cover track we did, for the simple reason that we loved it. Sadly, we did a terrible job.”

6. Lou Bega – ‘Mambo No. 5’

“The best chorus in the world? But I’m sure all the Monicas, Ericas, Ritas, Tinas, Sandras, Marys, and Jessicas of the world would disagree.”

7. 3 Of A Kind – ‘Babycakes’

“They invented a word and made a hit song out of it. Genius.”

8. Ricky Martin – ‘Living La Vida Loca’

“I swear every time you got into a moving vehicle over the millennium this spicy track came on and made you feel confused and naughty.”

9. The Cardigans – ‘Lovefool’

“Who doesn’t lock them self in the toilet and listen to this track at least once every hour?”

10. Oxide & Neutrino – ‘Bound 4 Da Reload’

“Reeeeloooaaadd!!”
