Ask the DJ: Tim Ayre – Top 10 Songs I’d Play on Vacation

Melbourne based singer-songwriter/producer, Tim Ayre – previously lead singer and keyboard player with indie pop duo Tim & Jean – has pre-empted the release of his upcoming debut EP with visuals for tropical pop track ‘LAXX’, which is a play on words. “In Australia we say LAXX as slang for relaxed (ie. Having a lax on the beach) and it’s also a reference to LAX airport in LA,” says Ayre. “I wanted to bring inspiration from those two references into the song.”

Influenced by the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Flaming Lips and Daft Punk, and inspired by timeless moments spent by the ocean listening to his favourite trove of songs, Tim Ayre’s debut EP was produced and co-written with Dylan Ollivierre from The Money War and encapsulates this peaceful yet powerful instant of introspection. The result is a highly chromatic and wistful sound that draws on the authenticity of yesterday to offer a vintage aesthetic of our day.

As for his playlist for FMS, check out the Top 10 songs he’d listen to on vacation.
