Azmeryth Explores Toxic Relationships on Latest Single ‘Your Wicked Ways’

Austin, Texas based Azmeryth – the indie dream pop project founded by singer-songwriter and keyboard player, Melanie Heide – has just dropped their latest single. The touching ‘Your Wicked Ways’ follows on from the huge success of their previous single ‘The Alchemist’, which went on to garner tens of thousands of streams online.

Recorded alongside Peter Heide and mixer, Kurt LaVacque, ‘Your Wicked Ways’ offers up more of that bright and sweeping energy she is quickly gaining a reputation for. With her beautifully wistful voice layered over smooth and serenading instrumentation, this new release looks set to become one of her most enticing cuts to date.

“This was probably the first ‘real’ song I ever wrote. I was 14 at the time, and one of my closest friends had begun seriously struggling with mental illness. ”

“This was probably the first ‘real’ song I ever wrote,” say Heide, speaking of the new release. “I was 14 at the time, and one of my closest friends had begun seriously struggling with mental illness. The friendship suddenly became toxic and verbally abusive almost overnight. I recognized that I had no control over their situation and although I cared about them deeply, the only thing I could control was my own behavior. Unfortunately, I had to distance myself for my own well-being. I wanted to take the frustration I was experiencing at the time and channel it into something positive. No matter what is going on in your life or how bad things may get, you can always take your feelings and put them towards something constructive.”

Born in California and raised in the small Texas/Mexico border-town of Del Rio, Heide inherited her love of music from her dad. She started singing before she could even speak English. (Her mother is Brazilian, and her father is a German who grew up in Spain.) Heide began writing songs at age 12 and joined her local school choir that same year, which she remained a part of until moving to Austin to study Psychology at The University of Texas. Her greatest musical influences include, but are not limited to, Beyoncé, Pink Floyd, and St. Vincent.

Experimentation, melody, and otherworldliness are all central themes of Azmeryth. They do not believe in trends, and just want to create art that makes people feel alive.

‘Your Wicked Ways’ is out now.
