Festival Style @ Rock en Seine 2015

French festival, Rock en Seine, was born in 2003. Taking place every year on the last weekend of August, in a wonderful park just outside of Paris, today it counts as one of the biggest festivals in France, and is among the more important musical events in Europe.

Every year, the festival invites the most exciting pop and rock bands, from big stars to new talents, to play across five stages arranged in a green French garden, where the audience can discover rock, power pop, electro, folk and see exhibitions.

This year’s line-up included The Chemical Brothers, The Libertines, Kasabian, Alt J, The Offspring, John Butler Trio, Jamie XX, Hot Chip, Jungle, Franz Ferdinand, Stereophonics, Kate Tempest, The Maccabees, Years and Years, Wolf Alice, Catfish and the Bottlemen and many more.

There were a lot of Brits at the festival – with the event being very easy to get to on the Eurostar from London to Paris – and it was very well organised, with toilet roll still available on day three!! Plus when it had rained, and inevitably got muddy, the organisers put straw on the floor to ensure safe crossings.

The festival vibe was less messy and more chic, with an option to camp or stay in a hotel closer to Paris Central, which is a 25 min commute. It was relaxed with no queuing to get into the grounds. I would highly recommend this tres chic boutique Parisian event, especially to those who are over the carnage and struggle of other festivals.

And as for the festival goers…

Rock en Seine 2015
Katy Pierce, 32 | Armelle, 33

Left | Name Katy Pierce Age 32

Katy stated that she followed a few people on Instagram, such as @audreylombard and the like, and uses the same pieces, but mixes them up super well and that’s awesome. Katy mixed the black lace bra-let with high waist, wet look leggings and Chelsea boot wellies, for an alternative style to the traditional Wellington boot – a staple amongst festival goers. Finished with an Aztec tribal print kimono and another festival favourite, the bum bag. Accessorised with silver jewellery with turquoise stone to compliment the colours in the bum-bag.

Right | Name Armelle Age 33

I really loved Armelle’s bohemian look. I don’t think you can tell if it is high end or bargain brand. The cuts and layering to this outfit are intriguing and alluring. I love the black buckle and strapped ankle boots, the split detail in the skirt, deep navy fedora hat and side plait. The look and style was very boho, Stevie Nicks, festival feel.

Audrey, 25 | Tim, 27

Left/Right | Name Audrey & Tim Ages 25 & 27

Tim is Australian and Audrey is from Switzerland and they travel a lot, so they are inspired by the countries they visit. I absolutely love a ‘coolple’ – a cool couple. There is a whole brand dedicated to them, Koolples, which is very popular in both London and Paris. Audrey’s total black out dress, in crepe material, is drawn in at the waist to flatter the figure, with a knee length split, and teamed with biker boots. Tim was simple yet effectively complemented Audrey in black turned-up skinny jeans and round neck, long-sleeved black tee, with chunky brown boots. Both topped off the look with round rimmed sunglasses.

Maximilien Blond, 18 | Lauren Brady, 27

Left | Name Maximilien Blond Age 18

I loved Max’s laid back summer style. He reminded me of a character from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, which is totally nailing the current throwback trend for the 90s. A transitional trend throughout the years has been the staple Converse, cut off Levis vintage shorts, baggy tee and the khaki beanie hat. I would describe Max’s style as 90s skater.

Right | Name Lauren Brady Age 27

When I asked Lauren who inspired her fashion-wise, she said Lola Kirke, who is an actress in Gone Girl whose cousin is Alice Dellal – a favourite of mine. Lauren’s deep green floral jumpsuit was perfect for the festival’s unpredictable weather, clinched in at the waist with a thin belt, and teamed with chestnut ankle boots, delicate, feminine jewellery and huge vintage style sunglasses.

Abi Bass, 26 | Clélia, 20 & Arnaud, 26

Left | Name Abi Bass Age 26

I spotted Abi’s mermaid-like purple hair and body art coming through the crowd – both I and Shane Meadows (director from This is England) are crushing on the 90s. Abi’s grunge 90s look is head to toe – from her Vans shoes to her denim short turn-ups, plaid shirt tied around her waist and heather grey halter-neck top, accessorised with a simple choker and sunglasses.

Right | Names Clélia Stevenard & Arnaud Ages 20 & 26

As I have said before, I love a good ‘coolple’. Clélia and Arnaud exuded cool. From Arnaud’s relaxed nu-wave-rock chicness, with his 80s vintage style buttoned up shirt, and turned up jeans. Clélia is a very beautiful girl with style to match. From her oversized black and white funky cross print blazer, to black peddle pusher, chino style pants and grey jelly shoes, topped off with an off-black fedora hat; a natural yet stylish look.

Max Clemente, 54 | Laeti Mabs, 27

Left | Name Max Clemente Age 54

Max’s dedication to rock and festivals amours me to him. The vintage leather rock biker jacket had been his since the 80s, and he’s kept it in pretty good condition. Max was “all black everything” from his jeans to vest top and boots. Topped off nicely with the 80s throwback Ray-Ban shape – the wayfarer. Max shows that style transcends through the ages.

Right | Name Laeti Mabs Age 27

Laeti caught my eye for sure. Her style depicts what French style is – understated yet effective. The ripped well-fitted black skinny jeans, simple grey draping tee with a lemon yellow bra underneath to add allure and match the colours in her feathered jewellery. The quiff hairstyle complements the look and adds a bit of rock, topped off with chunky brown boots for a festival feel.

Kerry Godfray, 28 | Orbaranes, 20

Left | Name Kerry Godfray Age 28

It’s always great to spot a fellow Brit whilst at a festival abroad, especially as the communication is easy. Kerry and her friends all looked like they were having a great time. I really liked her oversized long-sleeve Stussy top, another 90s brand making a comeback, just like Fila and Ellesse. Teamed with old school Adidas Samba trainers, Kerry gives this outfit a 90s grunge feel with aqua marine hair and piercing – a strong and current look.

Right | Name Orbaranes Age 20

Orbaranes looked naturally youthful and stylish with very minimal effort, which is the Parisian way. From the un-styled festival waved hair and fresh look face, to the statement vintage oversized Adidas jumper, white denim hot pant shorts and lace up black boots – very off-duty model festival look.

Street Style @ Rock en Seine 2015
Ailinh, 29 | Akanksha, 24

16 | Name Ailinh Age 29

Ailinh was very stylish and chic, yet crossing a few style genres. I felt the pleated shin length, diagonal colour-blocked skirt felt preppy or geek chic, yet the shape of the white vest top was almost a rock style cut, with round framed glasses and blue dyed hair adding an undertone of grunge. Either way, the eclectic mix was pulled together perfectly and totally suited Ailinh.

17 | Name Akanksha Sharma Age 24

Akanksha is a fashion designer from Delhi, and I think you can tell as she has a unique style. I spotted her from quite a walk away – she looked very cool, yet very simple and comfortable. I loved her hair style it gives a new spin on the 90s throwback that is massive right now. Akanksha made the dress she was wearing, the V front and back, wide necked and longer length sleeves are flattering to her figure, and she reminded me of Bjork, Delhi-style – total 90s recall!
