Gin Wigmore has announced a string of UK and European dates to support forthcoming album, Blood To Bone, this October.
The record follows 2013’s double-platinum Gravel & Wine, which spawned a number of hit singles including ‘Man Like That’, synced to a Skyfall-themed Heineken advertisement, in which Gin appeared alongside Daniel Craig’s James Bond.
The Auckland artist decamped from her native New Zealand to America’s Deep South whilst writing Gravel & Wine, but her latest release finds her newly resident in Los Angeles, with an album recorded between London, Australia and downtown L.A.
Blood To Bone was co-written by Alt-J producer, Charlie Andrews, which wasn’t the initial plan, recalls Gin, “The idea of us co-writing together was unexpected for us both. Because Charlie is largely known for producing, we were both sort of in the deep end with each other.”
The success of the partnership is evident in co-write ‘New Rush’ – the first single released from the upcoming album, earlier this year – which fuses Wigmore’s unmistakeable gravelly vocals to semi-tonal synth fuzz, and barrelling off-beat drums which reflect a love for the grand-scale drama of Woodkid’s album. “Charlie sort of opened a door for me to see I could do it myself – he played a huge role in terms of changing my head-space and showing me what is possible with electronic sounds. Charlie showed me about 808s, loops, pedals and samples – all this manipulation of sound that I had never know about before.”
Ahead of the October release is Wigmore’s latest single ‘Written In The Water‘, due September 11th.
The song tells the story of her love for a bad boy, who she knows she should leave but keeps coming back to. But then she doesn’t seem to be much of a saint herself…
Blood To Bone, is set for release on October 2nd via Island Records.
