Tash Sultana has once again joined forces with fellow Australian singer, songwriter Matt Corby to release her new single ‘Pretty Lady’. The expertly crafted track is the perfect summer bop, ready for the wave of warmer weather that’s on its way. With gorgeous layers of harmonised vocals, the song revolves around a silky-smooth rhythmic guitar motif, with shifting percussive elements; fluidly evolving into a vast soundscape that reveals something new for your ears to latch onto with every listen. It’s no surprise the song took as long as it did to become the final product we hear today.
“I’ve been trying to figure out how to write this song for six years. I used to loop it and just freestyle to it when I was busking years ago, but I always got stuck on the same parts…”
“I’ve been trying to figure out how to write this song for six years,” says Tash. “I used to loop it and just freestyle to it when I was busking years ago, but I always got stuck on the same parts. I put the song in a box at the back of my mind and revisited it in November 2019. I had Dann Hume and Matt Corby spend some time in my studio and that’s when I decided to show them this song. It’s my first song I’ve collaborated with other players on.”
The song is accompanied by a heart-warming video featuring artists, friends, and family performing a choreographed dance to ‘Pretty Lady’ from various locations of isolation. Tash said: “The idea behind the video was to really inject some joy and fun into people’s places of isolation, but also to highlight the diversity of spaces and places and show that we are all in this moment in time together, dancing in solidarity.”
The release of the video has been accompanied by an equally heart-warming challenge, taking place on social media, where fans film themselves replicating the choreographed dance moves featured in the music video and sharing them online – extending the concept and effect of the video even further.
The release, which as Tash revealed on Instagram, is taken from her yet to be announced forthcoming album. It arrives ahead of Tash’s mega world tour which is currently still due to take place from May through to September this year, ending with two back to back dates at the infamous Royal Albert Hall on 21st and 22nd September.
