Ask the DJ: Top 10 ‘90s Classics That Make You Wanna Dance Around In Your Underwear

Ask the DJ: Bakermat – Top 10 ‘90s Classics That Make You Wanna Dance Around In Your Underwear

Earlier this summer, Dutch DJ and producer Bakermat ended a six month period of isolation with two brand new songs – ‘Lion’ and ‘Do Your Thing’, forming the Do Your Thing EP, released via Be Yourself/Sony Music.

“’Do Your Thing’ and ‘Lion’ are a product of experimentation, time and pure unfiltered fun,” said Amsterdam based artist (aka Lodewijk Fluttert), who locked himself away after five non-stop years of intense touring. “I wanted to go back to the roots, and take my time to produce music that’s fresh, isn’t out there yet and diverse. The tracks are not particularly mainstream, but also not underground. It’s for people that want to hear something new and interesting, but still want it to have a feel-good vibe to it.

“Lately I’ve been listening to all the tunes I grew up with that made me fall in love with Dance Music, so I thought I’d make a list about the tunes that still make it impossible for me to sit still. To this day all of these tracks are still a huge inspiration for me, because they’re all fairly simple, feelgood, uncomplicated songs that showcase what music is all about in the end: not to be taken too seriously.”

1. Groove Armada – ‘I See You Baby Feat. Gram’ma Funk (Fatboy Slim Remix)’

“This track embodies the spirit of this list, feelgood, funky dance music that I wanna dance to alone in my living room. In my underwear.”

2. Cassius – ‘Feeling For You’

“If this French House classic doesn’t make you dance uncontrollably we’re probably never gonna be friends.”

3. Tim Deluxe, Sam Obernik – ‘It Just Won’t Do’

“Might be the biggest anthem from that era. Fatboy Slim opened his legendary Brighton Beach show with this track to set the mood just right.”

4. House Of Pain – ‘Jump Around’

“Still getting the respect it deserves at any decent house party, all you can do is jump around on this classic.”

5. Fatboy Slim – ‘Gangster Trippin’’

“A mix of hip hop, dance, breakbeat with a touch of hawaii.”

6. David Morales, The Face – ‘Needin U’

“The sound of Ibiza.”

7. The Chemical Brothers – ‘Galaxy Bounce’

“Actually, this song is totally weird. But I dare you to try to sit still.”

8. Tori Amos – ‘Professional Widow (Armand van Helden Remix)’

“Listen to the original first, and then realise the magic Armand van Helden pulled off by making this one of the most danceable records of all time.”

9. Joey Negro – ‘Make A Move On Me’

“Powerful disco strings with a totally feelgood vocal on top, what’s not to like?”

10. Junior Jack – ‘Da Hype’

“This absolute banger still get’s played to this day in clubs worldwide for a reason. Groove.”
