This month saw the first drop of the new Replica Scatto 1972 capsule collection by Replay, with more to come soon.
It was a browse through the archives of an artisanal workshop, specialised in the crafting of custom-made cleats, that led to the discovery of Scatto – a totally hand-tooled professional sport shoe dating to the early 1970s – and inspired a modern-day take that omits the performance purpose, while refining the smart and casual appeal.
While preserving the original shape, Replay gave Scatto a fresh twist with colours and materials that propel the capsule into a new era, where artisan expertise meets fashion creativity. Check out the four different themes that combine ‘70s athletic shoe with the sneaker of tomorrow – Suede, Full Leather, Avant-Garde and Lycra 3D.
This ‘men’s only’ style sets the tone for the three models. Velvet soft suede counterbalances a palette of dark blue, brown and grey shades, offset both by rich gold Replay logo accents on tongue and heel collar, dynamic tone-on-tone top-stitching, and a perforation motif on the side of uppers.
Created for both men and women these sneaks combine sleek design with premium material. Guys can choose from all-black and white through to fluorescent orange and yellow, plus muted navy and fog grey options, while girls are limited to a neutral palette of pastels, ranging from white and off-white to sky and powder blues, plus a warm nude hue that gets a dazzling shot of glam with a metallic heel collar. The details tie in both ranges, with contrast Replay logo on tongue and heel collar, sinuous top-stitching on uppers, and classic perforation motif on the side.
This collection plays on striking contrasts, where colours and materials clash in both men’s and women’s models, with light and dark, iridescent and metallic effects teamed with matte tones. On the male front, the sneaks heighten white, royal blue, dark silver tones with a metallic glint, then switch to quiet moss/green, powder/navy bicolors. Albeit in a more ‘feminine’ palette, the women’s styles add a glossy sheen to powder, white and black hues, plus a glittery black version. All options present tone-on-tone top-stitching and a graphic side motif in reflector pearl white.
Another ‘men’s only’ range, which makes the most of colour and material blocks, with sharp chromatic and textural contrasts. The soft-firm leather uppers feature a chunky lycra geo pattern on the back half of the shoe. Colours are strong: white clashes with grey and neon green, while a total black caps the series.
