NYFW SS17: Five Things You Need to Know About New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week took place the week prior to LFW to showcase their spring/summer 2017 collections. Check out our top five.

1) Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs’ SS17 collection announced that rave fashion is back! Models stomped along a catwalk decorated with hanging magical light bulbs, which made an enormous impression on viewers. The collection of short colourful skirts and dresses, metallic jackets, stripped sweatshirts and long fashionable socks, was presented on models with colourful dreadlocks, pinned high, in an Avatar style alien meets fairytale princess look. There were transparent clothes, military style jackets and trousers too. Nevertheless, the most impressive part of the collection was the high platform shoes and the hairstyling.

2) Coach
If you only watch one show this season, then you MUST watch the Coach show. Coach’s new collection is brave, rebellious and totally impressive. Models walked around old cars, wearing khaki shirts, leather jackets and vests covered in studs; T-shirts with Elvis Presley-like faces and transparent delicate dresses combined with boots, pinned with studs. The combination of delicate transparent clothes with rock’n’roll style leather pieces created a look that was sexy, independent and strong.

3) Tommy Hilfiger
Tommy Hilfiger’s SS17 collection was created in collaboration with top model, Gigi Hadid. Gigi not only opened Tommy Hilfiger’s fashion show during New York fashion week, but also worked with the designer while he was creating the collection. Hilfiger trusted Gigi, letting her choose the theme and style of the spring/summer 2017 collection. The collection was based on a marine theme with domination of black, white and blue colours. White long sweatshirts used as a short dresses are a total fashion hit!

4) Anna Sui
Anna Sui’s latest fashion collection combined maxi floral dresses, patterned skirts, cowboy style hats and jackets, short neck chokers and colourful platform sandals to present a very romantic and girly look. What’s more, the designer proved to us that wearing sandals with socks is not always such a bad idea… ;)

5) Marchesa
The most beautiful collection from New York fashion week? The Marchesa SS17 collection is definitely one of our favourites! Designers, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, presented a collection of romantic, transparent, almost skin toned dresses. The dresses were ankle-length and even though they were transparent, they were designed in a more classy than provocative way. What kind of dress will be on top of the fashion trends? Look for the one which has a lot of tulle and delicate laces…
